Bio-Chemistry
About the Department
The Department of Biochemistry came into existence in the year 1988 – 1989 with the introduction of B.Sc. Biochemistry programme. It was upgraded to the Postgraduate Department in the year 1994 – 1995 by introducing M.Sc. Biochemistry programme. A partial research programme (M.Phil. Biochemistry) has been offered from the academic year 2005 - 2006. The Department has been recognized as a Research Department for Ph.D. programme in Biochemistry from the year 2008-2009.
The College obtained CPCSEA (Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals) approval for Animal Experiments in 2009. The Department of Biochemistry is taking care of the CPCSEA-approved Animal House.
The Department is also offering Add-on programmes such as one year, two year DMLT and one year PGDMLT programmes from the academic year 2012 – 2013, in affiliation with the All India Medical Laboratory Technologist's Association (AIMLTA), Patna.

Facilities
- Well infrastructure with an equipped laboratory for UG, PG, and Research students.

Best Practices
The Department is instrumental in the College obtaining CPCSEA (Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals) approval for Animal Experiments in 2009. The Department of Biochemistry is managing the CPCSEA-approved Animal House for research activities
The Department is offering DMLT and PGDMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, in affiliation with AIMLTA (All India Medical Laboratory Technologist's Association) Patna, to enhance the employability of Biochemistry students
The extension and outreach programmes of the Department aim at community development and sensitization of the students to Institutional Social Responsibilities. The Department has organized many extension programmes including Screening for Anemia, Diabetes, Blood grouping, Awareness programmes on Anaemia, Coronavirus, Diabetes, and Dengu, etc. for nearby school students and villagers; Competition for students on “Traditional Foods for Healthy Diet” for the college students. The staff members also visit nearby higher secondary schools and take classes in Chemistry for +2 students.

IAEC - CPCSEA MeetingPG and Research Department of Biochemistry conducted IAEC - CPCSEA Meeting, under the Chairmanship of Principal Dr. A. Mohamed Sadiq. Dr. V. Sivakumar, the Scientist In Charge of the Animal Facility, Welcomed the Chairman, Member Secretary, CPCSEA nominees, and other members of the newly constituted committee for the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee meeting, Mrs. M. Jayanthi, Member Secretary, detailed the facilities available at our animal house and three students submitted the project proposal.

International Yoga Day Celebration -2023International Yoga Day was celebrated in our college Seminar hall on 21st June 2023. The special class and Demo organized on Yoga which was taught by Mr. S. Sathiyamoorthy, M.Com., M.Phil., MA (Yoga), Yoga Instructor, Assistant Professor in Commerce, APCAS. He has given the great idea and awareness of the importance of yoga and he also instructed various yoga asanas’ for students and staffs. More than 300 students as well as teaching and non-teaching staffs participated in the yoga program and benefited.
