About the Department


The Department of English was introduced in 1988 as Foundation English for I and II UG courses.

Objectives of the Department of English

  •  To enable the learner to communicate effectively and appropriately in a real-life situation.
  • To use English effectively for study purposes across the curriculum.
  • To develop an interest in and appreciation of Literature.
  • To develop and integrate the use of the four language skills i.e. Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

    Goals for English Department

    • To Increase English language peer interaction.
    • Explicitly teach English language vocabulary and structures.
    • Build on ELL’s Background Knowledge to Increase Comprehension.

      Activities of the Department


      • Remedial classes are conducted by our Department for slow learners.
      • Students are utilizing language lab for developing their communication skills.
      • Students participated in competitions organized by the Shakespeare Institute of English Studies.
      • Students participated in a Creative writing Competition.

      Best Practices


      • Encouraging Critical Thinking and promoting Leadership Skills by making students listen to TED Talks.
      • Creating and utilizing Open Educational Resources for teaching in the form of e-contents.
      • Employment of Print Media like Newspapers and magazines for activities to facilitate Intensive and Extensive Learning.
      • Assigning group activities for Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (LSRW).
      • Effective use of Social Media platforms like YouTube for teaching and training.
      • Faculty attending seminars, conferences, and other programs Orient the other faculty on the subject.
      • Encouragement of students’ participation through conducting Spoken English Classes.

      • In future B.A., English Literature Course is going to be introduced.

      International Yoga Day Celebration -2023

      International Yoga Day was celebrated in our college Seminar hall on 21st June 2023. The special class and Demo organized on Yoga which was taught by Mr. S. Sathiyamoorthy, M.Com., M.Phil., MA (Yoga), Yoga Instructor, Assistant Professor in Commerce, APCAS. He has given the great idea and awareness of the importance of yoga and he also instructed various yoga asanas’ for students and staffs. More than 300 students as well as teaching and non-teaching staffs participated in the yoga program and benefited.

      Women\'s Cell of Adhiparasakthi College of Arts and Science and Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Department, Ranipet District organizes an Awareness program on the SAKHI Platform.
